Fine art is a recession proof investment that only gets rarer and more valuable with time. Original art has value and is set apart from photography and prints because there is no way of duplicating it. It is and always will be an original piece of art work hand produced by an artist. Original fine art maintains its value over the years, and if well done, most likely will increase in value exponentially. The materials I use when I create a charcoal, pastel, or oil painting are archival safe and will remain brilliant for many years to come. When you commission a painting from me it is designed to last many years and to be passed on to future generations. This is the beauty of it all. Much of what we spend our money on these days has little real value, greatly depreciates soon after purchase, and eventually ends up in the trash. Fine original art is not thrown away. People realize its value both sentimentally and monetarily. It is meant to be passed on as a family heirloom. When a timeless piece of art work is a portrait of a loved one or someone important in the history of our lives, it tells an enduring story. It is my pleasure and privilege to paint for people, to use my skills to create, and to have a small part in documenting the lives of others.
Quotes from others about fine art and its value
"Price is what you pay. Value is what you get." - Warren Buffett
"Time extracts various values from a painters work. When exhausted the pictures are forgotten, and the more the picture has to give the greater it is." - Henri Matisse
"One possible way of measuring the value of any art form is its timelessness..." - Richard Nelson
"I cannot think of anything more difficult, or more fascinating, than attempting to paint an informative impression of a human being." - John Howard Sanden Painting the Head in Oil
"The unspoken language of fine art evokes a spiritual and emotional connection with the viewer that represents a truly valuable accomplishment for the artist." - Kristen Thies Wisdom and the Dreamer
"The wonderful thing about painting human beings is it is one fully aware consciousness communicating with another...and a painting can actually look back at you if the artist is skillful enough...to capture that as powerfully as it happens is what makes a portrait painting one of the highest forms of painting." -Richard Schmid The Captain's Portrait
"As artists we are given a special gift. We get to observe and record the beauty that is all around us; each from our own unique view point. And, we are given one entire lifetime to hone our skills and to do just that. What a wonderful journey." -William Schneider Princess
"Learning to paint is learning to see." - Sergei Bongart
"As we study the creation and see the beautiful complexities out there before our eyes every day, I'm convinced there is a Maker...He gets the glory." - Dan Gerhartz In The Studio with Dan Gerhartz
I think you have a thorough understanding in this matter. You describe in detail all here.
